LUCKY IN LOVE

EXCERPT:

W
yatt closed the door behind himself, removed his Stetson and entered.  He sunk into the sofa and placed his hat on his lap.  His dog, Tag, coiled into a ball at his feet and started to snore.

Jordan curled into the armchair, tucking her feet under her legs.  She told him about the beam of light through the window, the crashing sounds, the truck speeding away, and the hang-up call.  "You didn't happen to recognize the pickup when it passed your ranch, did you?"

He shook his head.  "I'm not positive, but I can make a pretty good guess at who it was."

"Who?"

"I think the truck belongs to a man named Joe Campbell."

Jordan's eyes grew wide.  "He was one of the men in the cafe this afternoon.  He and another guy were watching my every move.  Cole told me they work for Addison Stillwell.  And"--she nodded once, firmly--"I know all about Mr. Stillwell."

Wyatt honed in on the other man.  "Cole?  You mean Cole Roberts?"

"Yes.  You know him?"

"Sure, I know him.  Tularosa is a very small town."  He chuckled.  "So, you struck up a conversation with Cole Roberts in the cafe?"

"Well, he talked to me first.  I was just being polite."

"Sure.  All the pretty ladies are polite to Cole."

Jordan squared her jaw.  "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Oh, nothing.  I just never see Cole Roberts talking to any ugly women, that's all."

The hint of a smile formed on her lips.

"Now, back to these men--one was white, one was Mexican?"

"Yes.  Cole said their names were Joe Campbell and Cinnamon."

Wyatt corrected her with a crooked grin.  "It's Cimarron.  Joe Campbell and Cimarron Cruz.  A couple of petty criminals, worth less than the crap on the bottom of my boots."  He leaned forward and delved deep into her eyes.

His electric blue eyes stirred something within her.

"Stillwell didn't waste any time, and he hasn't even introduced himself to you yet."

The man's eyes traveled to her tee shirt and down to her bare knees.  Jordan suddenly became aware of the way she was dressed.  Or rather, not dressed.  She wondered how noticeable her breasts were beneath her sleep shirt.  She crossed her arms across her chest like a protective shield.  Wyatt blinked and looked away, but not before his lips split into a grin.

Her cheeks flamed crimson.  At least he could pretend not to notice!

He slapped his knees and twisted his neck to look into the kitchen.  "Got any coffee on the stove?"

Jordan's mouth gaped. Calmly, she replied, "Nope. Sorry. This diner's closed for the night."

"I'll take a rain check then," he said pleasantly as he rose from the sofa.  He plopped his hat on his head and bent down to rouse his sleeping dog.  "Come on, Tag.  Let's go before we wear out our welcome."

REVIEWS:

In Lucky in Love, Stacey Coverstone weaves a delightful story that made me smile all the way to the end. She creates vivid characters and positions them against a sharply defined background. The town of Tularosa, the diner, Jordan's ranch, and especially Houdini the goat, will remain with the reader long after the story is done. The New Mexico landscape itself becomes part of the narrative. Not to forget the love story between two adults with life experiences behind them, which is carefully woven and realistically presented. The reader cannot help but share the characters' emotions and cheer them on--but to say more would be to reveal too much. Lucky in Love is a pleasant, easy, engrossing read.  Stacey is a debut writer and well worth keeping an eye on, especially if you like old-fashioned, rugged, handsome cowboys.

Cherry Blossom, The Long and the Short of It Reviews

This story was a pure delight to read. I immediately took a liking to Jordan and admired how tough she remained while being harassed by Addison and his bullies. I loved Wyatt and Cole and felt they were a perfect match to help Jordan overcome all the nonsense she was experiencing since her arrival in Tularosa, New Mexico. I was hoping that Jordan’s luck in love would change also, now that she had Wyatt and Cole in her life. Ms. Coverstone penned a brilliant story wrapped around love, friendship and resiliency that I’m sure would delight any reader that picks up this story. I would definitely recommend this read to others, and I eagerly look forward to reading more stories by Ms. Coverstone.

I enjoyed Lucky in Love. The dynamic characters are well-developed and the reader comes away satisfied with the conclusion of everything. The beautiful backdrop of the picturesque mountains makes a great visual description to the storyline. I admire Jordan and her dedication to the ranch. She is a powerful heroine with backbone. I found the relationship with Wyatt and Cole both desiring to be a part of Jordan's life was very well-written. There were times I just sat spellbound taking in the traits of the two men who care deeply for Jordan. Stacey Coverstone sketches a lovely romance that this reader enjoyed immensely. The story moves at a good pace to keep the reader interested. I was on pins and needles wondering what man would win Jordan's heart, because both Wyatt and Cole are incredible men that any woman would choose. This wonderful story unfolds convincing characters that emit a swarm of emotion capturing my heart.
