I grew up in the small town of Farmer City, Illinois where reading, writing, and play acting were some of my favorite pastimes. I can't remember a time when I wasn't writing in my journals, scribbling poetry, or writing short stories and plays.
When I was in the sixth grade, I wrote my first play, a comedy entitled "Shotgun Weddin'." That same year, I became the first girl to have a paper route in my town. An elderly lady who lived in a spooky house at the end of the road became the inspiration for a short story entitled "The Witch on Raven Lane" which won me my first writing award--third prize in a regional contest.
When my daughters were young, I continued to write short stories and also decided to try my hand at children's books. I was thrilled when Brilliant Books published two of them. They were both published in five languages and distributed throughout the world. That was about 15 years ago, and I'm proud to say that those books are still selling today.
It was always my dream to write a novel and have it published, but raising kids, working, and enjoying many other hobbies kept it from happening for many years.
Two years ago, my husband gave me a gift for earning my Master's degree in Human Resources Development--a week at Cowgirl Camp at the Double E Ranch in Gila, New Mexico. It was a fantastic experience, and it inspired me to come home and complete my first novel. That book is unpublished, but it gave me the confidence to keep writing. One year later, LUCKY IN LOVE, my debut novel, was accepted for publication. Soon after, CHASING HER DREAMS was published. In September, RED ROSAS was released, and my second novel, HIGH LONESOME, is coming out in April, 2009. My third novel, DELANEY'S CROSSING, is finished and I'm hoping it will be contracted soon.
My family and I have made our home in Carroll County, Maryland for the past 13 years. Besides writing, I enjoy riding our horses, playing with our German Shepherds, photography, scrapbooking, and traveling, especially out west, where many of my stories take place.
